Two seven-inning game will be played Saturday, April 6 starting at 5:35 p.m. Right-hander Chase De Jong (left), scheduled starter for Friday’s game, will start Saturday’s game one for the Red Wings. Manager Joel Skinner said he will use the bullpen in game two.
In 2018 the Red Wings had 15 weather-related delays, postponements or suspensions of a game. This is the first postponement in 2019.
De Jong was a second round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2012 amateur draft. The native of Long Beach, CA., was acquired by the Minnesota Twins July 30, 2018 in a trade with the Seattle Mariners. In his minor league career the 6’4″, 205 pounder has a winning record of 41-38. He was 2-3 for the 2018 Red Wings when he saw action in seven games with five starts. He threw 39 and 1/3 innings with a 3.20 ERA. He also had four starts with the Twins and recorded a mark of a win and a loss. In the AL he threw 17 and 2/3 innings with a 3.57 ERA.
He made his major league debut in 2017 with the Mariners, going 0-3 with an ERA of 6.35. That season he started four games and made three relief appearances.
When the Red Wings do return to Frontier Field for their first home stand of the season, a number of promotions are on tap for fans to enjoy.
On Opening Day, April 11, the first 1,500 fans will receive reversible winter hats courtesy of Dunkin’. The local daily newspaper will also sponsor the giveaway of 5,000 magnetic schedules. Saturday, April 13 will be Autism Awareness Day, presented in coordination Autism Speaks.
The first Bark in the Park Day is scheduled for Sunday 14, presented by Invisible Fence Brand. After the game with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, kids are invited to run the bases with Spikes. This event is presented by the Burger Bar at Wegmans Pittsford store. The next day, the first 500 kids get to eat for free.
Rochester’s first homestand ends Wednesday, April 17 against the Syracuse Mets and will be $1 Wednesday promotion. Courtesy of Zweigle’s, the DiPaolo Baking Co. and the daily newspaper, fans can purchase hot dogs, Cracker Jack, peanuts and chips for 100 cents.
Following Saturday’s twin bill, the Red Wings are scheduled to conclude their series against Lehigh Valley before heading northwest on Route 81 to McArthur Stadium in Syracuse for three games with the Mets. Games are scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m. Monday with 1:05 starts April 9 and 10 in the Salt City.
